Which type of bedding is best for your small animal?
Have you got a little fluffy rabbit with deep dark eyes, perfect ears and the fluffiest tail? Or perhaps you have a cunning little guinea pig that loves to jump around and snuggle. Which ever small animal you have, it goes without saying that they deserve to have a warm, comfy and perfect little home to nest in. Which bedding is best for your fury little mate to sink his feet into? Lets take a look at the different types of bedding and why they will be the best for your wee pal.
Hay
Ohhh haayyy! We highly recommend hay because it also doubles as a highly nutritious food source while also providing your small animal with a warm and cozy place for them to rest their heads. Hay helps to maintain your fury friends dental and intestinal health and should always be present in their pen and or hutch.
Pine Shavings
The odour of pine shavings helps to disguise any yucky urine aromas and is really absorbent. We always suggest pine bedding is best used in open areas and outside enclosures and is ideal for rabbits and guinea pigs.
Aspen
Aspen shavings are fabulous for all small animals including rats and mice and provides them a great spot to burrow and nest. Aspen bedding comes from hardwood, eliminating aromatic oils found in other types of wood bedding. Its dust free and odourless but not as absorbent as other wood shaving equivalents.
Paper Bedding
Pet paper bedding is super-soft and absorbent bedding which is fluffy to encourage burrowing or nesting. Absorbing two times more liquid than wood shavings, its high absorbency means less odour - Paper bedding means less dust to which means cleaning your enclosure less. Yay!
Kritters Crumble
Kritter’s Crumble is made from uniquely processed grains of coconut husk, an organic, sustainable resource. Coconut husk has millions of naturally occurring micro-sponges that are super-absorbent, leach-resistant and odour-eliminating. Makes a fantastic litter and bedding for rabbits and small animals
